Singer-songwriter, producer, and DJ, Carol C premieres the music video for “All My Love” on Medium. The song is the first single from her solo album, Seven, co-written with producer Justin Filmer. The album’s title — Seven — refers to the number of years required to convert her life story into a musical chronicle.
The Los Angeles Times described her as “edgier than Sade, but more accessible than Everything But The Girl.” CMJ called her “a modern-day Elysian goddess.”
Carol C rose to national prominence with the electro-soul band Si*Sé, which made an impact on the Talking Heads’ David Byrne in 2001. Byrne signed Si*Sé to his Luaka Bop label, followed by including them on his worldwide tour, Look Into The Eyeball.
Si*Sé has shared the stage with Norah Jones, Kinky, Kraftwerk, Los Amigo Invisibles, James Brown, Gotan Project, Julieta Venegas, Cesaria Evora, and Nathacha Atlas, while Carol C has collaborated with Byrne, Ursula 1000, King Britt, Thievery Corporation, and The Phenomenal Handclap Band.
Still part of Si*Sé, Carol C’s solo venture allows her to display her innovative talent, amalgamating avant-garde elements with tropical flows, original electronic textures, and creamy dream-pop.
“All My Love” opens on gentle sparkling colors atop a shushing shuffle flowing into a softly undulating dream-pop melody full of gleaming surfaces. Psychedelic synths inject streaming, oscillating hues, as Carol C’s velvety voice glides on creamy tones. Mirroring vocal harmonies infuse the lyrics with tantalizing lustrous resonance, silky and nuanced with surreal textures.
A rippling guitar imbues the harmonics with trance-like colors, exuding sonic auras of gorgeous trembling elegance juxtaposed against Carol C’s sweetly alluring voice. The combination of quivering pressure and floating ethereal vocals suffuses the tune with wistful delicacy.
The video, directed by Navegante, was shot in NYC, and blends shots of the city — Empire State Building, Domino Factory, children playing in spouting water, and Orchard Street — with images of Carol C swaying and twirling in front of a color-filled wall of graffiti.
“All My Love” is gloriously wrought, exuding a glossy sonic palette of colors on a cashmere dream-pop melody, as Carol C’s spectral voice spins out tones of liquid gold.
