PREMIERE | Freekbass Lets Loose ‘Knuckle Sandwich’

Funk guru Freekbass unleashes a new single, “Knuckle Sandwich” on Medium. The track is from his forthcoming album All The Way This. All The Way That., slated to drop May 31 on Color Red.

Freekbass describes the song’s genesis, “‘Knuckle Sandwich’ was a song that happened very organically in the Color Red studio. I had this bass riff that I would always play at soundchecks. I started playing it, Rico locked into this drum groove, and Sky had almost a rhythm pattern on keys. Eddie Roberts added some super-slinky rhythm guitar and the music-part was born. We then shared the music with Sammi, and gave her the working title, “Knuckle Sandwich” to work with, and she came back to “knock us out” with her lyrics!”

Prior to the release of the full album, Freekbass will premiere a new track from the album every Friday — Freeky Friday — during the month of May.

Recorded in Cincinnati, Ohio and Denver, Colorado, under the guidance of Grammy-winning producer Itaal Shur and producer Eddie Roberts, the album features not only Freekbass, whose innovative double-thumb technique on his bass inspired a cult-like following, but the all-star talents of The Bump Assembly, consisting of Rico Lewis (drums), Sky White (keyboards), and Sammi Garett (vocals).
